After using this every day over the last couple of weeks I can see this becoming a regular part of my daily routine.
As a confirmed I.T. workaholic I spend far too long sitting at my desk typing into my keyboard and that’s not the best way of keeping my joints and muscles in shape. I know I should sign up with a gym but having done that before, paid for a year’s membership and then stopped going after the first month’s novelty phase wore off, I’m reluctant to go down the same road again. I know of others my age who run along the canal every morning or cycle along the river from the supermarket to Halton and back every evening after work but I’m just not that fit! Honestly, I’d be lucky to break a sweat before I sat down on a bench and got my phone out!
So I thought I’d give VZFit a go, which is the app that is used for this experience.

As you can see from this selfie I took, my first choice of route was through the Alps and I managed to do 2.1 miles and burned up 65 Calories before I had to stop and play with the camera. Which is pretty good going for me!
What I most like about VZFit is your surroundings, which feel so real, courtesy of Google Street Maps, as you cycle along at a speed of your own choosing. I listen to Classic Hits and move my arms up and down, as you would if you were running while bending my knees and squatting to generate the movement. Actually it’s more like dancing that I do because I get into the rhythm of the music I’m listening to and move my feet and stretch and twist, however I want.
I’ve been managing 5 miles in less than half an hour, breathing more deeply and building up a sweat, which supplements my occasional walks into town to make me feel less stiff and sedentary. Each day I choose a different route in a different country, including some lovely local routes in Cumbria and Scotland, but also I’ve been to Norway, Finland, USA and Australia so far. There are routes to choose from around the world for me to dance through, before I start creating my own routes, from places I have lived in and would like to still wander through occasionally.
I haven’t tried it yet, but apparently you can join in with others and complete routes together. Might investigate that soon with my daughter in Australia. I might have to turn the music off, though, because we don’t always have the same taste in that department!
If you want to try it yourself then why not book in an Exploration Session one Tuesday evening and make sure you put in Experience 19 during the booking.
